Today I had to leave school early to travel north-bound to the Gold Coast. It was a pretty uneventful and ‘fly by’ journey. I arrived and proceeded to grace Pacific Fair with my scrutinizing presence. In the whole hour I was there I just wanted to find one good pair of sunglasses, just one, does that seem like a difficult task to you? No? Well think again Sherlock Holmes.Let’s just quickly review my current status before we venture any further into my sunglass experience, or lack there of.

Ok, I am sixteen years old, unemployed for the mean time, but have a reasonably good taste in fashion. And I’m just in need of a reasonably priced, functional, or should I say, funk-tional pair of sunnies. So I did the usual, cruising around, trying to look cool and as if I’m not really interested in anything I’m looking at. It’s quite astonishing actually at the extremes of types of sunnies I looked at. Some, like the one in Roger David, were pretty crap but priced like over $60! As I kept walking I came across the good ole’ cheap shop, with all the crap you love to hate. Well the price of the sunnies were good, and maybe I should stop at that…I suppose I am a tad fussy but I mean, looking like E.T.’s human twin wasn’t the exact look I was going for. So I kept walking, putting on the ‘self-confident and independent’ youth look, and meandered into the Sunglass Hut Well, there were definitely some ‘liker’s’ in there, and maybe if I was playing football for Manchester United (yay, Man U.!) I would’ve walked out of that shop looking pretty shaded. But, considering my state of finances, I can’t really afford a $250 pair of Oakleys or Ray Ban’s. And thus, my journey remained fruitless, and I remained shadeless, left to cripple as my eyes are exposed making me blind and ‘uncool’.

And so there passes another hour of my life, wondering around a shopping centre that looks as if it is used as a carpark during the night. Sometimes I wonder why I bother, I mean, I love shopping, but it isn’t that great walking around solo, getting asked half-heartedly by shop assistants, “How’re you going?” and “Can I help you”. You know that they’re really thinking, “I’ll just go over and ask this dipshit if they need anything so I look like I’m doing my job.”…But you just politely answer “No thanks, I’m just looking.”

It’s a false world really. I wouldn’t be surprised if you had just been served by someone in a clothes or food store, and you see them down the street, they wouldn’t ask how you are or if you need some help.Anyway, I felt pretty lame in truth, which is why I was consciously attempting to look ‘cool’ and ‘self-confident’. Pretty sad really…But who shops on their own anyway? Leave a comment and tell me what you think about solo shopping, or just shopping in general. Cheers people, tom.m.g

Blues Fest.

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

Hey all you thomasgleeson.com-ers out there, Bluesfest is coming up this weekend. How cool is that, and I am lucky enough to be going (courtesy of a late birthday present from my Mum and Dad). I can’t wait, if you get the chance to go you definately should, and hopefully you are going and we might even see each other, but not know who the other person is…oh well who cares. I am really into Ben Harper, if you know him, you would love him to, and if you don’t know him, get out from underneath the metaphorical rock that you’ve been living under and check out one of the best artists in the world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03Z5Ai3J1ug&feature=PlayList&p=9193F3D2CC3A790A&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=3 Follow this link to see a quality Ben Harper and Jack Johnson performance. For any info you want regarding the festival of the Blues, cruise yourself over to  http://www.bluesfest.com.au/ .

So…this is a website…interesting.

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

Hey ho dudes, seeing as this is my first post on my first website, it will probably be lacking the kind of juicy or interesting content that makes most of you web slingers out there look at such sites. But hey! It’s an empty pallet so I may as well fill it. I hope to gradually develop this site into something that will be referred to as a place of new and interesting things. I am aware of the millions upon millions of people that are offering the similar if not exact content that I am aspiring to, however, perhaps with enough experience this will become an individual site with it’s own personality and unique content. Well, in the words of the honorable Bugs Bunny, “That’s all folks”. Til’ next time, i bid thou adieu…
