Mystery and Silence.

November 30th, 2010

What keeps the majority of us going each day? For one person to answer that without sufficient surveying would be irresponsible. For me, though, two things keep my interest in life fresh and dandy; the endless possibilities of mystery and the a fascination with silence. For in the contemporary world we live in today, few things remain aft of sound and even less experiences hold the power of mystery, uncertainty and adventure.
So go, explore new things that haven’t been done before, and good luck. For I believe there is very little fantasy left in this world, and thus if you find any source of wonder, you should treasure it fully.

Why is society so bent on being completely impartial, even deliberately abusive to others in an attempt to maintain what they may deem “social standing”, “image” or “values”. There are very few good people in this world, and as cynical and pessimistic as that sounds, it is in fact true. If you do not believe so, then I envy you more than anyone else in existence, for you are surrounded by good people, or at least apart of the illusion you are. As they say, ignorance is bliss, and thus if you are currently immune to whatever dickheads surround you, please, keep doing what your doing. For I have become too sensitive to the thoughts and opinions of others. It’s a cruel existence being a teenager, and if you think I’m just being weak, unreasonable, or pathetic, go fvck yourself.
For one thing, people take themselves way too seriously. What is so bad about having a lame joke here and there? What is so terrible about being a bit more socially open, fun even, and just enjoying the rough ride of being a teenie.

As for those people who may, will, read this and think that what is being said is a load of utter crap, then kudos to you for developing your own judgement on something based on first-hand experience. For some carbon-based life-forms choose instead to make their decisions and judgements without even considering all aspects of an occurrence. Again it seems like a redundant practise to pursue an idea without having a clear picture of it’s every aspect. But who am I to talk, for I am the worst culprit of such a crime. Forming judgements from trivial things is something that everyone does subconsciously, and it’s only those who hear those thoughts loud enough to listen to them that it truly affects.
In my mind, everyone is equal, and that is such a cliched, hackneyed, and overdone saying that it is probably meaningless to someone like you. And when I say someone like you, I mean someone like a human, someone that has a brain, two feet, feelings, a bed, a favourite sandwich spread. Because I have no target market, I don’t even care if this message is read only by me. But I still believe that no one person deserves any better or worse treatment, regardless of what they have said or done. People don’t need to be ridiculed unnecessarily by you, or anyone else for that matter. Everyone has the right to be whoever they fucking want to be, and if anyone thinks otherwise, please, move to Alabama.
Now of course I am going to have to treat the issue of murderers, rapists, pedophiles and so on and so on, and why I think that they should get treated the same as everyone else. Well, honestly, I think they should all be removed from society and kept away for however long they live. However in saying that, I am forming an opinion based solely off what little I really do know about such people. Thus i have contradicted myself, and if there is one thing to take away from this literary mess, its this:
LIFE  IS  FULL  OF  CONTRADICTION.

now fuck off and do something with your life, i know i won’t.

Today ladies and germs I have the prestigious honour of gracing your eyes with yet another of my esoteric pieces. And, as you have most likely deciphered from the working title, it is about labels.

So we all have some kind of label attached to us, whether that relate to our sexuality, interests, looks or overall persona, it is a natural human tendency to classify relative things, objects, people into groups to reassure ourselves and find comfort in the fact that everyone has somewhere to belong, and nothing really challenges our way of thinking. I think the term for it is a “social device. It is used in society to reinforce the common belief’s held by the majority and assert a feeling of security in John Citizen and his sheltered perception of the world. You would hear it prevalently in the ramblings of conspiracy theorists, and indeed anyone who holds the common belief that the media is pilfering the information, censoring what they regard as bad for the social workings of our culture. Many of you would be aware of the censorship that goes on in China, and the extreme penalties enforced on those that go against their social media regime. The purpose of that is to create a government controlled society that is influenced solely by one party. How does this relate to labels you may ask? Well the reason people label things is because they wish to concur with the social norm, resonate with what is currently accepted (or accepted as being unaccepted). We do this to secure our own views and opinions of the world, because as we grow up, those views are cemented and labels confirmed in our own minds. Thus when someone or something happens that challenges our own perception of what labels, groups, factions and whatnot exist, it is a rattle to the fragile cage of our mind. That is why you hear the older, white-collar conservatives retaining their racist, fascist etc. beliefs. That is what they have come to hold as acceptable, regardless of the contemporary conventions. But things are changing vastly and veraciously, social boundaries are being warped and stretched to encapsulate a much larger and broader range of cultural beliefs and divides (or lack of divides, i.e. cross-overs). I guess this is where I bring it back to the only universal reference point I currently hold, school.

School. The mere word should make you close this tab straight away, but I couldn’t be fucked about your actions, so I’m going to continue on my likely redundant tangent and hopefully unveil something brilliant!
So school is rife with a bundle of labels, majority of which are some adaptation of a derogatory or insulting term. Nerds, sluts, lads, indie kids, desmonds, art-fags, emos, goths, heshions and so on and so on. These social boundaries and conventions of character are set up subconsciously to generate an artificial ‘rule book’, if you will, with which those of uncertainty can safely class people. Through this process, they find refuge in their minds, and reinforce their own view of themselves by comparing themselves to others. Now when I say “Those of uncertainty” I’m not referring to the people who dress hardcore one day and indie the next (like me :P ). No, I’m referring to every teenager in existence. For the teenies is a time of supreme change and inner conflict, and so by creating labels and classes with which people can compare themselves, they hope to discover more about themselves. For instance, “Those dudes jeans are retarded dude, I’d never rep that shit ayeeee”. The persona is reinforcing their sense of character by comparing their own beliefs and ideals to others.

So… I guess the thesis behind this rediculous piece of crap is to give you, the reader, an insight into why you might be subject to a label that you may not agree with. It is out of your hands, and if I could offer one piece of advice, it’s just to go along with the flow and try not to make any enemies along the way. People are always going to judge, label, and judge you some more, but it is up to you to choose if and how you will react.

Be cool. Tomm o.x.

How’s Your Form Mate?

September 12th, 2010

Greetings and salutations friends. I haven’t written anything for a while now and as such I th0ught it would be appropriate to produce something of some interest, but I guess that’s up to you to decide…

Life has been pretty run-of-the-mill heinous lately, what with the balance of school, work, family and a complex social duty, but it hasn’t been disappointing by any means. What to write about… well I think that right now one thing that is important to me is my future, and what I’m doing now that is affecting that future. For instance my year eleven exams begin in some 12 hours, and as such I should be applying myself to some relevant quotes and points form Shakespeare’s “Anthony and Cleopatra”, and so it is somewhat of a contradiction that I am writing about my future when I am presently compromising it, but who gives a fuck about year eleven anyway. I mean, this article may well resonate with “Giving a Shit”, but that is just an indicator of what I’m contemplating I guess (tags?).

Anyway back to the issue; our future is the only thing we really possess. When you actually sit back and think about it, there is little that is certain in life other than the passing of time and our interactions with it. So it is fundamental to everyone that we invest something in our only real asset. For the future is more enigmatic than life itself, despite popular belief. This is because it can take any number of paths, most predictable, but similarly, it is the minor differences in day to day life that really stand out and influence our somewhat railroad lives. For example, if you were interested in fostering a healthier school life and thus a brighter future, you might stay home on your Friday night, studying Chemistry and Newton’s Law’s of Motion. But if you have different values and a different outlook, you would conduct yourself in a different manner of course, practicing chemistry and the law’s of attraction instead.

So its important to remember that every decision you make has an effect on the path your life will follow, and I apologise to my English classmates who are probably so sick of “Journeys” and the preachings of Robert Frost, but I guess it made an impression on me and so I’m trying to share that around. “The hardest thing to do is to start”, words of wisdom from my year 8 math teacher, and as I found out, some of the wisest words I have heeded. For everyone tries things out, if only once, but then to ‘start’ on your own, to take an  initiative to your life and try to improve it by any measure of experience or discord, one must have a certain quality of persistence and determination to follow something through. And thus starting something, continuing something, partaking in something, and the act of living day in, day out possesses ramifications on your future that may be unfathomable at the time, but perhaps in retrospect will be more clear to the eye…

The point of this little piece is to accentuate the importance of everyday life and how it can shape your whole entire fucking life. From the smallest thoughts and movements, one can instigate something that changes their life forever,
Peace out.
